Hailing from Bergamo in north Italy, Folkstone originated in late 2004 as an initiative combining hard rock with instruments traditionally associated with an acoustic sound. Breaking the mould of the typical application of their tools – bagpipes, bombards, harp, cittern, bouzouki, hurdy-gurdy and flutes – they have created an explosive mixture of folk, rock and metal, accompanied by introspective and autobiographical lyrics inspired by contemporary themes.
Their seventh album, Diario di un ultimo, released in March, is a collection of personal stories permeated by a veil of nihilism and the band’s restless take on everyday life. The album is distributed under their own independent label: Folkstone Records.
