The theme of friendship seems to be very relevant in Tolkien's Middle-earth. It is evident in The Lord of the Rings that, from Boromir's sacrifice to Sam's loyalty, he conveys the importance of trusting the people we love: "Sam, I'm glad you're with me," says Frodo to the faithful Hobbit who, saving him from his weaknesses, helps him defeat Sauron. It’s a power that overcomes the age old hostility between Legolas and Gimli, and gives life to "the most profound friendship ever between an elf and a dwarf". It’s a message of equality and solidarity that shows how unity is the greatest strength of Tolkien's masterpiece.
